24th Regiment of Foot in North America

Reliving History...The 24th serves again in North America

The re-created 24th received permission from the Royal Regiment of Wales on January 5, 1995 to re-create the regiment as it was in 1777.  With the watercolor of a Battalion man of the 24th by Von Germann and artifacts the uniform of the 24th was re-created to the best of their knowledge.  On October 7, 1995, the 24th was back at Balcarres Redoubt (stop 6 at Saratoga National Historical Park, NY), the very ground and day they fought on 218 years ago.  Throughout the years they have traveled across the Northeast and encamped in many historical sites such as Hubbardton VT, Fort Ticonderoga NY, Fort Stanwyx, NY, Saratoga National Historical Park, NY (in May 1997 the 24th  was asked to become Saratoga National Historical Park’s own Regiment).  The 24th has participated in filming of documentaries for PBS and The Learning Channel and has spoken to clubs, schools and libraries.  In the short time since the 24th has been re-created, they have been recognized for their detail and authenticity on their uniforms and drill.  In September 1997, Major Martin Everett, archivist of the present-day regiment, the Royal Regiment of Wales, came to visit them.  In October 2002, Major General Elliott, Colonel of the RRW presented the King’s Colour to the re-created 24th.
