24th Regiment of Foot in North America

One Suite of Clothing...The uniform of 1777

The recreated 24th has gone to great research to accurately reconstruct the uniform of the 24th as it was on General John Burgoyne's campaign to invade America from Canada in the year of 1777.  When ever possible we would cast of the original items as in the waist-belt plate and the cartridge pouch plate or if this was not possible we would detail photos, measurements and rubbings of the items to have the item remodeled as in the regimental coat button.  Not every aspect of the 24th's uniform can be recreated from original  artifacts of the 24th as of  yet, so we had to research common items to the 18th century British soldier.  The pattern for the suit of clothing was created from an original soldier coat of the Guards, The waist-belt is patterned after an original of the 21st who served along with the 24th in General Burgoyne's campaign as did the 62d in which the Cartridge pouch is patterned after. Our campaign hat is a interpretation of what we can see in the Frederick von Germann's watercolor painted on campaign in 1777 as we have yet found a surviving original or a pattern.  We have and always will to strive to be as accurate as possible and as new evidence accrue and artifacts come know we will keep up with these changes as we did when the 24th original musket turned out be the Long Land pattern musket.
